Hawkeye Home Sales, a Coldwell Banker Advantage of Southern Pines brand, donated $2,800 to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services. This topped their donation of $1,900 from the year before.

After another record year in closing real estate transactions in Moore County, principal owner and broker in charge of Hawkeye Home Sales Monica Hawke presented a check to newly elected Sheriff Ronnie Fields to present them the large donation.

“My husband Brad, also a REALTOR® and a meteorologist, and I adopted 2-year-old George, the Hawkeye Home Sales mascot from Animal Services two years ago, and he has been an amazing addition to our lives,” said Hawke. “Earlier this year, we adopted Delilah, a 5-year-old Norwich Terrier from Caring Hearts for Canines, so we had a decision to make as to who we should donate this year. While our national company, Coldwell Banker, is a huge supporter of pet adoption, and actively supports Adopt a Pet, https://www.adoptapet.com/homesfordogs/, for us it is personal.  And because of the work done by our local Sheriff’s department in that they have to take in all animals left behind, and knowing their fixed budget, we felt our donation would affect more animals’ and humans’ lives by donating once again to Moore County Animal Services.”

Cathy Larose, the broker in charge of Coldwell Banker Advantage in Southern Pines continues to be impressed by the commitment of Monica and Brad in helping animals who need a new place to call home.

“Coldwell Banker produced the most viewed pet adoption promotion, ‘Somebody to Love’ in 2017 ,” said Larose. “They followed it with ‘Old Dog, New Dog’ in 2018 with more striking success. Monica and Brad are committed to finding these dogs new homes, and a two-year commitment of $4,700 proves it. I am so proud.”

Moore County Animal Services is operated by the Sheriff’s Department. Monica and Brad have seen first-hand the passion of their staff in how they love, care for, and try to place every animal that comes through their doors, coordinating with up to 64 nationwide agencies to place the animals that are healthy and non-aggressive.

“We do background checks on these rescue groups before they are approved for our list. We’re trying to reach out more and more to these rescue groups. Our service, unfortunately, is not one where we can choose which animals we take in”, says Sheriff Ronnie Fields, who recently adopted one himself, and says it is hard not to bring many more home. “We have to take whichever animals come to us. Because of the limited budget we have through the county, we’re reaching out to the public for donations for Animal Services. Our staff there absolutely love the animals, as well as myself.”

Until earlier this year, most of the food was donated to Animal Services, but this year they lost that supplier and face increased costs in feeding these animals in need.  The $2,800 donation from Hawkeye Home Sales will likely go to purchase food for the animals they take in.

While making a concerted effort to only euthanize those animals who are either too ill or too aggressive to place, the department faces new challenges and ask for your help.
