A truck driver escaped injuries after losing control of his six wheel flatbed truck when it struck the railroad bridge near Belk Lumber on U.S. Highway 1 near Southern Pines Monday night.

After the Southeastern Tool and Die truck struck the railroad bridge, the driver’s side front wheel came off, and the truck went down an embankment crashing into nearby trees.

Frank Staples with Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue said, “The driver self extricated, and said that he didn’t want to be transported to the hospital.”

The truck is totaled from the accident, and a Mercedes vehicle traveling behind the truck suffered some damage from truck impact said Staples.

Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, The Moore County Sheriff’s Department,  Moore County EMS, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
