Starting Monday, March 19, drivers will encounter occasional lane restrictions and delays as contract crews begin improving N.C. 5 in Moore County.

The N.C. Department of Transportation is widening the two-lane highway to include a center turn lane for about 1.2 miles between Sandpit Road and Dawkins Street. Additionally, a left-turn lane will be added on N.C. 5, roughly between Dawkins Street and Turning Leaf Way.

The extra lanes will make it easier and safer for motorists to turn.

NCDOT advises motorists to slow down and stay alert in the work zone and find an alternate route.

The Greensboro contractor, P&S Grading Inc., will not be allowed to close lanes between 7 and 8:30 a.m. on weekdays or on holidays. The project is scheduled to be complete by November. The construction contract was worth almost $750,000.
