A three-vehicle accident in Southern Pines resulted in one person being airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries Friday night. The accident occurred on Central Drive at the intersection with Fairway Drive.
A Cadillac sedan collided with a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, which in turn was rear-ended by a GMC SUV. The Cadillac and truck were both left with heavy damage and the Cadillac off the side of the road. The GMC SUV sustained minimal front-end damage from striking the back of the truck.

A second rescue crew from Aberdeen was called to assist at the scene of the crash. Emergency crews had to use hydraulic tools in order to remove the driver of the Cadillac from the vehicle.
Due to the severity of the injuries of the driver of the Cadillac, a helicopter was called. Aberdeen Fire & Rescue responded to Memorial Park to set up a landing zone for the UNC helicopter.
A second ambulance was called to transport one person from the pickup to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. A dog that was in a passenger in one of the vehicles was examined and found to be uninjured.
Central Drive was shut down for an extended time while emergency crews worked. Rockwell Towing responded.
Southern Pines Police were on the scene and are investigating the cause of the accident.
Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police Department.
