A 14-year-old girl was airlifted to a hospital Monday after flipping the ATV she was riding. The accident occurred on Plainview Road in Carthage shortly after 7 p.m.

According to officials at the scene, the teenage girl was operating the ATV with her younger brother on the back when the accident happened. The brother did not suffer any injuries. His age is unknown at this time. 

Fire officials stated that the girl suffered trauma, and Air Care was called to a nearby field. Neither occupant of the ATV was wearing a helmet. 

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Carthage Police Department, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
