Two people from Vass were arrested last Thursday for failing to report the death of a 25-year-old man, according to a news release from Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

Dashawn Marquan Quick, from Moore County, was found dead by deputies on August 10 at a home in the 100 block of Autumn Drive in the Vass/Lobelia area.

Curtis Terrill McCrimmon, 32, and Zhana Jade McLeod, 25, were arrested nine days later and each charged with one count of felony conceal or fail to notify death of person, and one count of misdemeanor aiding and abetting in the concealing of a death. Both suspects were placed under $75,000 unsecured bonds.

“The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy that was conducted by the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,” said the news release. “Moore County Sheriff’s Office detectives investigating the case determined that two individuals were present when the victim was found deceased and failed to notify law enforcement of the death.”

This is the second concealment of a death case in September that Sandhills Sentinel has reported.

In a separate case, the sheriff’s department arrested two people on Sept. 8 for the concealment of a Cameron woman’s death.

Ashton Taylor Potter, 23, was found deceased by authorities on July 10 at a home in the 600 block of Red Hill Road. Jeremy Justin Holder, 34, of Sanford, and Heather Lynn Chastain, 20, of Cameron, were arrested in that case.

Quick’s funeral service was held at Carthage Elementary School on August 17.
