The 2020 District Attorney’s race is now underway.

In a Friday press release, the Chief Assistant District Attorney for Hoke and Scotland Counties, Michael Hardin, announced he is running against Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger.

The newly created district of Hoke and Moore Counties came about with the new judicial redistricting by the NC General Assembly.  Hoke County was formerly paired  with Scotland County but now will be part of District 29 with Moore County.

In a Monday press release, Krueger announced she is launching her 2020 campaign. “When I worked to put myself through law school, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve,” said Krueger.  “I wanted to be a prosecutor. I always knew that I wanted to work to see that victims of crime were as well represented as possible and that criminals received what they deserved under the law. I am announcing today that I am running for another term to serve as District Attorney. My goals remain the same today as when I was a law student. My drive to prosecute crime and my passion to represent victims remain.”

Krueger’s experience includes being an Assistant District Attorney in 1997. She became the District Attorney for Moore County in 2007.

Krueger has prosecuted thieves, rapist, habitual felons, drunk drivers, drug dealers, and murderers. She is one of a few DA’s in North Carolina with an inmate on death row, according to Krueger’s press release.

“The new Moore County and Hoke County combined Prosecutorial District makes it more important than ever that you have a District Attorney who is an experienced leader, dedicated to all of the citizens she serves and who will not be swayed by other interests,” said Krueger.  “I hope you will support me in my bid to serve you as District Attorney.”

Hardin’s career started 22 years ago, according to his press release. Hardin has spent the last 19 years ‘concentrating on the prosecution of rape and child sex offense cases.’ His last three years have been focused on homicide cases, including capital murder.

“I have a track record for the successful prosecution of serious, high profile felony jury trials,” said Hardin.  “I also have extensive management experience in a two-county prosecutorial district, having served as both the Senior Assistant District Attorney in Hoke County and the Chief Deputy Assistant District Attorney for both Hoke and Scotland Counties.”

Hardin expressed appreciation for future support.

“With the creation of the newly formed prosecutorial district, the citizens deserve a District Attorney with extensive experience in the management of a two-county district, successful courtroom experience, and community involvement,” said Hardin.  “I believe my longstanding dedication to the public and to victims of serious crime make me the clear choice in the 2020 Republican primary, and I would appreciate your support and vote in both the primary and general election in 2020.  If you would like additional information, please view and like my Facebook page at Team Hardin.  Thank you in advance for your support.”

Hardin lives in Southern Pines with his wife and 7-year-old son.
