4-year-old girl's wish for inclusive playground comes true

Four-year-old Ivy Williamson would love to go to the park and swing on the playground with other kids. However, due to her rare disease, she is in a wheelchair, and the equipment at her local park in Vass has not been handicap accessible.

When Ivy and her family found out she could have a wish granted through Make-A-Wish, they wanted something that would not only impact Ivy but also their entire community. They determined giving wheelchair accessible playground equipment to their local park would be the perfect wish.

Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina along with the City of Vass and Peggs Recreation
have been working together to make Ivy’s wish a reality.

Two pieces of wheelchair accessible equipment have been installed at Sandy Ramey Keith Park, a swing and a merry-go-round.

On Wednesday at 11 a.m., there will be a small ribbon-cutting ceremony before Ivy plays on her new equipment for the first time.

The park is located at 3600 U.S. Highway BUS 1.
