Albert Wright

Two local workers celebrated a combined 90 years on the job at The Country Club of North Carolina (CCNC).

The two longest-serving members of the greens-keeping staff reached significant work anniversaries, said CCNC.

The company congratulated and saluted Fletcher Covington (50 years) and Albert Wright (40 years) for reaching these significant milestones. Covington, of Vass, has the longest tenure of any full-time CCNC staff member, and Wright, of Southern Pines, has the second-longest time of employment.

CCNC Director of Agronomy Ron Kelly, who has worked almost 30 years with this pair of loyal and hard-working staffers, realizes their importance to his team’s broad scope of daily duties.

“Having Fletcher Covington on our staff is a real pleasure,” Kelly said. “He keeps things interesting around here. Fletch walks around singing all day.”

Kelly also said: “Albert Wright is always in a good mood and willing to do anything. He replaced both his knees a few years ago and he is stronger than ever now.”

Much of the work of these gentlemen, who Kelly appreciated as “a pair of great guys” is accomplished behind the scenes and often at ‘early bird catches the worm’ hours.

“When you are proudly telling your friends, work associates, or others how good the Dogwood and Cardinal courses are, you should pause and mentally tip your cap to Fletcher and Albert,” said CCNC Chief Operating Officer Don Hunter. “Think about the quality of their work and the legacy of their contributions to the conditions on your home courses. And, when you see them next, make sure you say “Thanks” and give them an ‘air high-five.’

Ninety combined years of service is impressive but if you add the easy-going demeanors and hard-working spirit of teamwork of Fletcher and Albert you have a formula for memorable work.

“The tenure in our staff speaks volumes about how committed the membership and staff are to each other,” said Hunter. “We are very proud of that.”
