The SCC Jazz Band, the “Sound of Swing in the Sandhills” for over 47 years, will continue their summer concert series with “A Swingin’ Summer: Count Basie Meets Motown!” on Monday, August 11, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in BPAC’s Owens Auditorium, on campus at Sandhills Community College, 3395 Airport Rd., Pinehurst.
Join the Jazz Band for a concert featuring signature Basie favorites, including “Li’l Darlin’”, “Moten Swing”, “Down for Double”, and “Alright, Okay, You Win”, several Motown classics including “What’s Going On”, “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”, and “Isn’t She Lovely”, and other tunes you are sure to enjoy.
The Band is led by Dr. Larry Arnold, Professor Emeritus at UNC Pembroke and a long-time Aberdeen resident. Among the talented local musicians who you may know are Rev. Dr. Paul Murphy of Southern Pines, Rob Hill, Music Director at Union Pines High School and former director of the Jazz Band, and Chris Dunn, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Moore County.
