abandoned building catches fire

Emergency crews responded to a structure fire just after 2 a.m. Sunday in Aberdeen. The single-story older structure, at the corner of South Street and Glasgow Street, had heavy flames showing when firefighters arrived.

Aberdeen Police were responding to an incident in the area and saw the structure on fire. They immediately called for fire units and checked the building for anyone that might be inside.

Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, but the structure was a total loss. The structure has not been in use for a number of years.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Responding to the fire were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Aberdeen Police Department.
