Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Aberdeen building inspectors are no longer performing in-person interior building inspections for occupied commercial and residential properties. Until further notice, this policy is put in place to protect the health of town staff and the public. The Town of Aberdeen is adhering to the recommendation by the NC Department of Insurance on the use of Live Remote Inspection, according to Chief Building Inspector Mike McGowan.
This includes mechanical, hot water heater change-outs, and any other inspections that require building inspectors to enter the property.
Building inspections are still required and can be accomplished remotely via live FaceTime, Duo for Android, photos, and paper documentation scanned and emailed to Town staff. Arrangements for the inspection can be made when calling to schedule the inspection. You will be contacted by an Inspector if more information is needed and/or to establish a time to perform the remote inspection.
All new construction building inspections will continue to be completed in-person. The Town of Aberdeen requests, however, that no other persons be on-site during these inspections.
Some types of inspections may not be able to be completed by remote inspection, based on assessment of the video call by your inspector. If this happens, the inspector may ask for further documentation from you attesting compliance.
