The Town of Aberdeen discussed several topics and announced at its Oct. 26 regular board meeting that it is working on plans to create a commissioner memorial for Lloyd Harris who was an Aberdeen commissioner and volunteer fireman.

“He ran the original Golden Corral for 25 years,” Mayor Robbie Farrell said. “He was a great guy.”

In other matters, the Town will publish a link for donations on its website for a police memorial. The Aberdeen Police Department has raised $6,000 of $45,000 for a six-foot bronze memorial statue to be exhibited at the new police station when complete.

A Downtown Christmas European Style Market was approved to be held on Dec. 5 between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. The style is “more quaint and toned down commercially” than the American style, according to Sabiston and will be held at the Knight Street and Tarbell areas.

The Town also approved at the meeting a lease/purchase of a concession and storage facility on Sportsplex property with Sports Center of the Sandhills, LLC and to purchase it at the end of three years for $295,000. The Town will lease the Sportsplex property and building with the Athletic Club of the Sandhills, Inc.
