A 57-year-old Aberdeen man was sentenced to prison after a Moore County jury convicted him Thursday of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury after slashing a local man’s neck with a box cutter.
Judge Kevin Bridges sentenced Lloyd Stewart, who lived on Roseland Road, to 6.9 -9.3 years in prison, according to a statement from Moore County District Attorney Mike Hardin.
The case was investigated by the Moore County Sheriff’s Department with detective Bob Acklus, sergeant Danny Perry and deputy Andrew Bradley taking part in the investigation.
“In the early morning hours of July 4, 2020, Stewart was in Daniel Priest’s apartment,” said Hardin. “Mr. Priest asked Stewart to leave. Stewart became enraged and slashed Mr. Priest in the neck with a boxcutter.”
Priest was airlifted by a helicopter to UNC hospitals in Chapel Hill where a medical team put 34 staples in his neck in emergency surgery.
The case was prosecuted by assistant district attorney Drew Cochran.
“The District Attorney’s Office would like thank each of the jurors for their willingness to devote their time and effort to jury service,” said Hardin. “The right to a jury trial is an important Constitutional right and without the contribution of these citizens our courts could not function.”
