Aberdeen Police officer involved in 3-car accident

An Aberdeen Police officer was involved in a three-vehicle accident in Aberdeen Thursday evening. The accident occurred on U.S. 1 South by Aberdeen Lake just before 7 p.m.

The accident completely shut down U.S. 1 in both directions, and traffic was rerouted down Poplar Street. Traffic was backed up for almost a mile toward Texas Roadhouse.

The accident involved an Aberdeen Police Department Ford SUV, a Subaru Impreza, and a Honda Accord. No one was transported to the hospital, but EMS did evaluate several of the occupants.

The Aberdeen patrol vehicle suffered extensive front-end damage. It appeared all three vehicles were heading south when the accident occurred.

Due to the accident involving a police officer, N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police, and N.C. Highway Patrol. Rockwell Towing also responded.
