Peace, justice, and property at board meeting

Aberdeen Town Board released their work session September 10, 2018 meeting highlights:

– Received Information from Fenton Wilkinson regarding a Co-op Grocery and Food Hub/Community Kitchen in Downtown Aberdeen. The Board members expressed interest in the concept and agreed to let staff work with Mr. Wilkinson on further exploring this concept. 

– Fire Chief Phillip Richardson provided a report on the feasibility of the ambulance operation for the Town of Aberdeen. The Board members opted to provide needed repairs to the current ambulance and continue to track calls and discuss this item again during the budget planning process for Fiscal Year 2019-2020.

– Scheduled the public hearing for Conditional Zoning Request #18-07 submitted by Lemond Johnson to assign the conditional zoning category of C-I-C to include an Indoor Athletic and Exercise Facility for 3140 NC 5 Hwy, Suite C-2 for September 24, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. 

– Approved Resolution #18-24 to accept surety for infrastructure improvements for Sandy Springs Phase 4A and approved Resolution #18-25 to accept surety for infrastructure improvements for Pee Dee Road Improvements for Sandy Springs Subdivision. If the 2nd entrance to Sandy Springs is not completed within 12 months, then the Town will call in the bond and construct the 2nd entrance. 

– The Board members received information on vacancies for Town Advisory Boards and applicants interested in those vacancies. The Board members will consider filling those vacancies at the Regular Meeting on September 24, 2018. 

– Director Westbrook stated the next citizen input meeting for the Comprehensive Land Use Plan Update will be held on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. 

– Approved sharing the cost 50/50 with the Artist League to replace the entire roof of the Exchange Building at a total cost of $51,150. 

– Approved Resolution #18-26 Regarding NCDOT Maintenance and Improvements to Midway Road; Resolution will be sent to appropriate staff persons at NCDOT and a meeting scheduled to attempt resolution of this issue. 

– Approved the schedule for the Citizen’s Academy Program to begin October 15th. 

– Approved the Telephone Service Contract with Windstream and purchase of new telephone units. 

– Held a Closed Session pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318.11 (a)(3) to preserve the attorney client privilege regarding Quality Built v Aberdeen / TNT-01126231.
