As the rain pours down, still my guitar gently weeps could have sang from Becca Rae’s lips Friday evening as her band performed at The First Bank Stage at the Sunrise in Southern Pines.
The weather didn’t cooperate for the band and audience, but that didn’t stop them one bit. The crowd congregated at the Sunrise Theater entrance, beneath the enormous tree looming over the sidewalk, and under umbrellas to seek shelter from the storm and to party on with the band.
After a brief time, the rain traveled elsewhere, and an even larger crowd appeared to dance the night away.
Becca Rae is a singer-songwriter from Southern Pines, and she is the creator and host of Sunrise Theater’s “Singer-Songwriters in the Round” showcase that spotlights North Carolina songwriters, according to Rae’s social media page.
First Friday is a colossal concert series that plays on the first Friday of the month between May and October, and this is the 12th season.
Next performer to take the stage will be the Ben Miller Band on August 3.
