Emergency crews responded to a two-story apartment fire early Monday morning about 3 am.  

The fire was in the 100 block of Pinehurst Avenue in Southern Pines next to Perry Brothers. The first crews on the scene found flames coming from both the first and second-floor apartments and extending into the attic area.  All occupants had evacuated the building with no injuries by the time firefighters arrived.  The fire crews worked quickly to knock down the blaze.  There was extensive damage to the outside of the building and into the upstairs apartment. A truck that was parked beside the building also had significant damage. 

According to Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, the cause of the fire was from carelessly discarded smoking material.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Pinehurst Fire & Rescue, Whispering Pines Fire & Rescue, Southern Pines Police, and Moore County EMS.
