Arrest made in Pinebluff homicide case

An arrest has been made in a homicide investigation where five people were shot at a large gathering in the Addor community in Pinebluff on July 23. Keith Martinez Wright Jr., 29, of Fayetteville, died at the scene.

Three days later on July 26, sheriff’s investigators arrested Malik Williams, 25, of Greensboro. Williams was charged with one count of first-degree murder and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center with no bond.

In a news release, Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said the shooting took place in the 200 block of Primrose Path, off Currant Street Extension, at 3:28 a.m. 

Holly Smith, 50, of Aberdeen, and Desmond Jones, 45, of Southern Pines, were airlifted to UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill with serious injuries and are now in stable condition.

Calyndell Miller, 24, of Raeford, and Tony Williams, 33, of Southern Pines, were transported to Moore Regional Hospital where they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lakeisha Wright said on social media that her brother was a father and soldier at Fort Bragg, and they were going to celebrate his birthday in a couple of weeks.

“My brother really was killed over nothing, lord my heart hurt so bad,” wrote Lakeisha Wright on her Facebook page.

Sheriff’s investigators are working to identify witnesses who were present at the gathering at the time of the shooting.
