Last month, state Rep. Allen McNeill, who has served five terms representing parts of Randolph and Moore counties, announced that he will not seek reelection to the North Carolina House of Representatives.
On Tuesday, career law enforcement officer and Randolph County resident, David Ashley, announced in a news release he is seeking election to fill the vacancy of House District 78 in the North Carolina General Assembly, which includes much of Randolph County and a significant portion of Moore County, including Pinehurst, Foxfire, Robbins and Seven Lakes.
“As a retired state law enforcement officer, I’ve long been a supporter of Rep. McNeill and appreciate all that he’s done in service to our community and state,” said Ashley, “After many weeks of fervent prayer and deliberation with my family, I’m humbled to announce that we are seeking to continue serving the public as the next representative for House District 78.”
A graduate of Surry Community College, Ashley spent nearly 30 years in law enforcement, serving as a Special Agent to the North Carolina SBI Alcohol Law Enforcement agency and for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of North Carolina as a law enforcement officer,” said Ashley, “I look forward to continuing in service to the public, fighting every day to make our community the best place to live, work, and raise a family. I look forward to earning the trust and confidence of our community and neighbors to serve as their voice in Raleigh.”
According to his release, Mr. Ashley’s top priorities include supporting first responders, supporting our agriculture industry and other small business owners, protecting 2nd Amendment rights, and fighting against unconstitutional government mandates.
