A recall was issued for baby cough syrup sold nationwide at Dollar General stores.

Kingston Pharma, LLC announced Wednesday they are recalling their DG Naturals Baby Cough Syrup + Mucus because it may be contaminated with bacteria.

The product comes in a white carton labeled DG Health Baby Cough Syrup + Mucus in 2-fluid ounce bottles marked with Lot KL180157.  The product has an expiration dated of Nov. 2020 listed on the bottom of the carton and has a UPC code  8 54954 00250 0.

The cough syrup has the potential to be contaminated with Bacillus cereus. The bacteria in food products has the potential to produce vomiting and diarrhea. Most often, illnesses are mild and self-limiting, although more serious and even lethal cases have occurred.

Individuals at risk for more severe forms of illness include infants, young children, and others with weakened immune systems.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

Production of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue their investigation as to the source of the problem.

Consumers who have purchased  the cough syrup may return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
