Bank robbery suspect captured

The Southern Pines Police Department announced an “armed and dangerous” suspect in a bank robbery has been captured.

The police department said in a Monday afternoon news release that the First National Bank on West Morganton Road was robbed on Monday morning just before 11:30.

The department made a second announcement on Tuesday that Herbert Lynn Lowery, 41, of Maxton, was arrested for robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police say Lowery “entered First National Bank demanding money from bank employees” and escaped in a stolen vehicle.
