B&B Strategic Management knows the steps to a better you

Janet Galloway, owner of B&B Strategic Management, is inspired to help others securely handle their financial affairs — and to dance off the blues.

This professional Latin dancer taught at Kansas State, traveled with a Latin dance team, and will host a night of Latin dance — just for fun at her new office in the Cooper Auto Choice building in Southern Pines.

The public dance event is July 21 from 6 to 7 p.m., and Galloway will offer Latin dancing instruction. No partner is needed to join — just a desire to have fun!

Galloway said dancing helps people feel better. It helps them find their feet when life has pulled the rug out from under them, much like when facing financial obstacles.

Passion for helping others led Galloway to earn her master’s degree in personal financial planning and the professional designations of Certified Financial Planner (CFP®), Certified Divorce Finance Analyst (CDFA®), and Chartered Federal Employee Benefit Consultant (ChFEBCSM). She focuses on helping federal employees and women in transition due to death or divorce create a financial road map for their future.

“Federal employees have a lot of benefits, and I help them utilize them in the best way possible and sometimes show them benefits they didn’t even know they had,” Galloway said.

She is constantly updating her knowledge on federal employee benefits and finding inventive ways to help the community.

Her next B&B Strategic Management event is June 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Imagine Moore, The Biz Spot, 206 Commerce Drive in Southern Pines. She will discuss the projected upcoming six economic storms. Register at her website.

“I grew up as a military brat and married into the military and divorced twice. I know the strife,” Galloway said. “But it didn’t dawn on me until I saw a presentation on grief that healing after a divorce includes the grieving process.”

Galloway has three main pieces of advice for people considering divorce.

First, she advises taking photos of all financial documents, bank accounts, deeds, debts, assets, and checking credit in case the spouse used credit without mentioning its use.

“Knowing what exists is empowering,” Galloway said. “Even if you are unsure about a document’s significance, take a photo.”

Second, she said to lean on friends but to go to professionals for advice.

Third, she said to seek legal counsel.

“I am not a lawyer, but I can recommend lawyers that make a good fit for different situations,” Galloway said. “I work on the comprehensive financial planning. I work on empowering people to envision their future and put a plan together to help them achieve it.

“Women need to be ready in their grief phase to be empowered to take action,” Galloway said.

She said that 50% of first marriages end in divorce, and 64% of second marriages fail.

“People feel shame when going through a divorce, but they are not alone, it’s normal,” Galloway said.

Galloway enjoys the transformational process of helping people overcome and feel empowered to move forward in life.

She has four children. One is a North Carolina State graduate. Two live in Topeka, Kansas, and one lives in Kansas City, Kansas. She visits her 4-year-old grandson twice a year in Kansas City.
