Bicyclist airlifted after being hit by car in Woodlake

A resident of Woodlake was airlifted to an area trauma center following a crash on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were dispatched to Riverbirch Drive shortly after 1 p.m. A man riding a bicycle was hit by a car in the private community near Vass.

According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was traveling in front of a van. The driver of a Toyota Camry behind the van went to pass in a no-passing zone at the same time the man on the bike was turning left.

First responders said his injuries are non-life-threatening.

The driver of the Camry was cited for passing on double yellow line.

Responding to the scene were North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Moore County EMS, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, and UNC Air Care.
