Body discovered in Robbins

A Saturday morning search party set up by family and friends of missing 40-year-old Trapper Dunlap were searching along railroad tracks on Broad Street in Robbins when they came across a body who they believe is Dunlap.

The body was taken to the North Carolina State Medical Examiner’s Office where they will identify the body and cause of death.

“The search party discovered a body, and we called the SBI in to help with the investigation,” Robbins Police Chief Lawson Thomas said to Sandhills Sentinel. “The body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and to confirm the identification. Foul play can’t be ruled out.”

According to family and friends of the search party, the search was planned to be at another location in Robbins, but after an anonymous tip was given Friday evening, they changed the search to the area along the tracks.

This is the second search conducted by family and friends this week. Dunlap was last seen by family on July 8.

Dunlap’s family waited at a nearby park about 200 yards away from where the body was found. Family and friends came and went throughout the day hoping to find answers and pay their respects.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” said Thomas.

Anyone who has information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Robbins Police Department at (910) 948-3549.

Responding to the scene were Robbins Police Department, Vass Police Department, Robbins Fire and Rescue, State Bureau of Investigation, and State Medical Examiner.
