Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s professional touring company stops at Bradshaw Performing Arts Center this Sunday, Jan. 29, to perform “Confessions of a Former Bully,” a live stage adaptation of Trudy Ludwig’s bestselling children’s book.
Curtain time for the hour-long show is 3 p.m. It’s the second entry in BPAC’s Family Fun series, which kicked off last fall with the sold-out Doktor Kaboom show “Look Out! Science Is Coming.”
Executive Director Morgan Sills states, “In addition to a worthwhile afternoon at the theatre, we hope ‘Confessions of a Former Bully’ will be a conversation starter for young people to discuss the issues brought up in the play with their families.”
“Confessions of a Former Bully” tells the story of Katie, who never considered herself a bully, but repeatedly teases her classmate Monica, pushing their friendship to a tipping point. Will Katie and Monica’s friendship survive?
On her way to understanding the importance of empathy and kindness, Katie learns how to stand up for herself and others, a recurring theme in Ludwig’s work. The award-winning author of “Brave Every Day” and “The Power of One” specializes in children’s books that help young people connect and engage with their peers in kind, caring ways.
Adapted for the stage by CTC’s Michelle Hoppe-Long, “Confessions of a Former Bully” was praised by audiences and educators alike during its initial run in Charlotte.
The cast is comprised of three professional North Carolina-based actors: Anna Goldstein, who plays Monica; Sultan Omar El-Amin, who plays Mr. Sanders (and others); and Corina Childs, who plays Katie. Childs will also be seen in “A Sick Day for Amos McGee,” the next Family Fun series offering at BPAC in March.
