Camper destroyed by fire in Carthage

A typical Saturday night quickly turned into panic for a couple in Carthage.

Carthage Police Department responded to a call at a residence in the 200 block of Union Church Road just after 7 p.m. Once the officer arrived, he immediately requested the fire department due to a structure in the backyard being on fire.

The glow from the flames in the night sky could be seen from over a quarter mile away. Emergency units arrived and had the fire knocked down within minutes.

The camper was a total loss, but the man and woman living there were not injured.

At the time of this article, a dog was missing but was believed to have just run off.

Moore County Public Safety was on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the camper.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Whispering Pines Fire Department, Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Police Department and Moore County Public Safety.
