Car crashes cable barrier U.S. 1

A young woman was transported to the hospital Saturday after crashing her car into a cable barrier along U.S. Highway 1 in Vass. Emergency units were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 South and U.S. 1 Business. 

A BMW passenger car was traveling southbound when the driver lost control, crashed through the cables in the median and spun around coming to a stop facing north in the southbound lanes. Shortly after arriving on the scene, fire command called for a second rescue out of Southern Pines Fire Department to assist while extricating the patient.

The driver was transported to Moore Regional Hospital, and her condition is unknown as of this report. The vehicle suffered heavy damage.

Both southbound lanes of U.S.1 were shut down for a brief period while crews worked the scene and the roadway could be cleared.

State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident.

Responding units were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department and N.C. Highway Patrol.
