Carthage man dies in Sanford shooting

A 25-year-old Carthage man died in a Sanford shooting on Tuesday morning.

Calvin Lester, Jr. “suffered a single gunshot wound in the parking lot of a local eating establishment Fat Juniors Grill at 4900 Womack Road,” said Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Lester was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Later in the day, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and the Fayetteville Police Department Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, placed Ar’mon Jones of Dornoch Drive in Fayetteville into custody accusing him of the murder.

“Investigation revealed that both the victim and suspect worked at Caterpillar,” said Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “The murder occurred in a nearby parking lot after both men had gotten off work. At this time the motive is still unknown.”

Jones was placed in the Lee County jail under no bond.
