Coach Metzger: 'It's been an honor to serve'

Head football coach of Pinecrest High School announced Monday he is resigning. Chris Metzger’s last day will be May 17. Metzger will be taking a position at Montgomery Central and will be the Director of Football for Montgomery County.

In his 14 seasons with Pinecrest, the school went 111-58. They had 10 playoff appearances, including an ELITE 8, and a semifinal.

“Fourteen years ago, we came with a vision; me, my wife, three small children, and six assistant coaches,” Metzger told Sandhills Sentinel in a phone call. “We came with a vision using four pillars of success to build champions of life. Thousands and thousands of players have become leaders, successful in community service, and in the classroom. It has been an honor to serve, an absolute honor.”

Since Metzger took over the reigns, 110 student-athletes furthered their education while playing college football.
