Community members gathered at Pinecrest High School to pray Saturday morning after a female student was stabbed at school the day before. The community prayer event was posted on the Facebook page of Moore Families for Education.
“For any that want to gather tomorrow to pray for Moore County: Meet at the front entrance to the Pinecrest High School (PHS) Auditorium tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 11:00 AM for a period of community prayer for the victim, the families, students, the intervening school resource officer (SRO), administrators, and teachers who took action and were directly impacted by the tragic attack earlier today,” said the Facebook post. “In the midst of tragedy, there were young heroes who emerged today.”
Pinecrest High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after a stabbing occurred in the auditorium parking lot.
The group was small, but the prayers were mighty. Other events in the area Saturday, including Springfest, may have impacted the turnout but, in no way, diminished the impact of the words spoken and the prayers offered.
Officials said the isolated incident involved two students. The female victim, a junior, suffered critical injuries and required surgery. The suspect was immediately apprehended. Authorities did not release a motive. Identities were not released due to their ages.
Among those in attendance were two students who helped subdue the suspect. It was announced at the prayer vigil that they and other students ran toward the suspect and subdued him. Today, they showed up again for their critically injured classmate, this time to pray.
There were prayers of healing and also prayers of forgiveness. The group prayed for all those involved and all those impacted.
