Recovery analysis shows NC students made gains on pandemic losses in 2021-22

During The Moore County Board of Commissioner meeting Tuesday, Moore County Schools Executive Officer of Operations John Birath presented a request to allow Moore County Schools to utilize lottery funds to complete upgrades to the schools’ IT infrastructure.

Last Tuesday, the Moore County School Board approved using approximately half of the $1.7 million available in unspent lottery funds to upgrade the district’s technical infrastructure and to replace end-of-life devices. The total cost of the project is projected to be $1.3 million.

In addition to the $750,000 in lottery money, the district has been approved for a federal grant for $550,000. The grant does have a sunset clause, requiring that equipment purchased through the grant be installed and operational by September 2020. According to Birath, “to meet that deadline, all equipment will have to be ordered by March 2020. The commissioners approved that request 5-0.

The next regularly scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting is December 9, with a work session scheduled for December 2.
