Robeson County traffic deaths trend upward

Four people escaped serious injuries after a crash heavily damaged two vehicles in Cameron on Tuesday. The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Highway 24-27 at the intersection of Fessler Lane, about a half-mile from Harnett County.

Two vehicles, one traveling east and the other traveling west, sideswiped each other. The impact sent a Nissan Rogue SUV off the road crashing head-on into a tree leaving it with heavy front-end damage.

The other vehicle, a Honda Accord passenger car, went off the opposite side of the road and overturned, leaving it upside down with heavy damage.

The female driver of the Nissan was not injured and was the only occupant. Two adults and a child in the Honda were transported to Moore Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

One lane of Highway 24-27 was shut down for a brief period while crews worked the scene, and the vehicles could be removed.

N.C. State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident.

This is the same area of Highway 24-27 where a motorcycle went off the road into a tree and a man was airlifted, and less than a half-mile from where an accident involving a log truck claimed a man’s life last year.

Responding to the scene of today’s accident was Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. Highway Patrol.
