A woman was airlifted to a trauma center on Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while cycling in Carthage.
First responders were called to the 3100 block of Vass-Carthage Road just before 5 p.m.
According to investigators, the cyclist and the driver of a Chevrolet Colorado were traveling toward Vass. The driver of the vehicle looked down at his radio for a moment, and that’s when he collided with the cyclist.
The point of impact was approximately 30 feet from where the bicycle came to rest. The woman continued for about 40 more feet into a ditch.
Witnesses say the cyclist was conscious but dazed after the crash. The woman was quickly taken by ambulance to a landing zone for UNC Air Care. The extent of her injuries is unknown at this time.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene after the crash. He was not injured but appeared to be shaken with emotions.
