Four members of Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue saw promotions with the turn of the new year. Effective Jan. 1, members Adam Ferguson, Rudy Allgood, Matt Black, and Nathan Pedersen were the four recipients celebrating these changes in leadership.
“As with any successful organization, we are continually seeking individuals who lead by example, demonstrate integrity, and uphold the values of service, commitment, and excellence,” writes the department. “These promotions reflect our confidence in their abilities and their dedication to the mission of Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue.”
Adam Ferguson will be promoted from captain to assistant fire chief. Ferguson began his fire service career in 2000 as a junior member of the Cameron Fire Department and remained with the agency through its 2010 merger with the Circle V Fire Department and Vass Rescue Squad, forming what is now Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue. He has served in the roles of firefighter, lieutenant and captain.
Ferguson is a member of the Moore County Water Rescue Task Force based at Cypress Pointe and also serves as a fire service instructor. He works full-time for the Fayetteville Fire Department as a deputy fire chief overseeing administration. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from UNC Wilmington and is in his second year of the National Fire Academy’s four-year Executive Fire Officer Program. He is married and has two children.
Rudy Allgood will be promoted to captain. Allgood joined the department in 2016 as a part-time firefighter and has since served in multiple leadership roles, including regularly acting as a shift battalion chief. He works full time for the Carthage Fire Department, where he also holds the rank of captain. He is married and has two children.
Matt Black will be promoted from lieutenant to captain. Black began his fire service career in 2006 as a volunteer with the Circle V Fire Department prior to the merger that created Cypress Pointe Fire/Rescue. He is a full-time employee assigned to C-Shift and has previously worked with the Fayetteville, Spring Lake and Pinebluff fire departments. His service with CPFR includes roles as firefighter, driver/operator and lieutenant.
Black is a member of the Moore County Water Rescue Task Force and serves as both a swift water operator and diver. He is married and has three children.
Nathan Pedersen will be promoted to lieutenant. Pedersen currently serves as a driver/operator and is an active member of the Water Rescue Task Force. He joined the department in 2018 and is employed full time with the Raleigh Fire Department, where he is assigned to Engine 21 and the Swift Water Rescue Team.
Fire Chief Mike Cameron said the department prioritizes leadership, accountability and professionalism when selecting officers.
“We look for officers who value accountability and have the ability to lead in the station, on the incident scene, and in the community,” Cameron said. “We also value those who help build and strengthen our culture and maintain high expectations for themselves and those around them.”
Department officials encouraged the community to recognize the promoted members for their service and accomplishments.
