Ever wonder what it would look like if your best friend suddenly forgot their name—or insisted their belly button had been stolen? Prepare for an evening where imagination meets hilarity as award-winning entertainer David Anthony takes the stage with his Comedy Hypnosis show at Bradshaw Performing Arts Center (BPAC) on Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in Owens Auditorium.
The finale of the 2024–25 BPAC Comedy Series, this interactive, laugh-out-loud event invites audience members to become the show’s stars. Renowned for his quick wit and magnetic stage presence, Anthony welcomes volunteers to join him on stage—no pressure, just pure fun. In mere moments, participants may find themselves dancing, speaking gibberish, or defending the mystery of their stolen belly button, all while under Anthony’s expert hypnotic spell.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Anthony discovered his love of magic at just 5 years old when his uncle gave him a magic kit. By age 12, he was performing in public and honing his skills with the guidance of Rodney Whitlock, a local magic shop owner. His passion and dedication quickly earned him recognition on the national stage, with top honors at major competitions, including first-place finishes at the 2009 Magi-Fest and the International Brotherhood of Magicians, where he also received the prestigious Fantasma Award.
Blending comedy, hypnosis, and theatrical magic, Anthony’s act continues to evolve with the support of theater director Art Thomas. Whether performing close-up illusions or captivating large theater audiences, Anthony delivers an unforgettable, high-energy experience.
“This is comedy like no other,” Anthony said. “Because the audience becomes the cast. The people you walked in with might make you laugh the hardest—and they won’t even remember why.”
No two shows are ever the same, and no one is ever pressured to participate. Volunteers who step up will find 15 to 20 chairs waiting on stage—and a lot of fun ahead.
BPAC has partnered with the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens to complement the evening’s entertainment and offer a unique pre-show experience. Guests are invited to a 45-minute docent-led tour through the gardens—a vibrant and peaceful natural retreat just steps from the theater. The tour requires a separate signup at TicketMeSandhills.com in addition to tickets for David Anthony–Comedy Hypnosis.
Families and friends can stroll through lush pathways, admire colorful blooms, and enjoy serene landscapes before heading to Owens Auditorium, where BPAC Concessions will be open for pre-show snacks and drinks. This blend of natural beauty, community connection, and first-rate live entertainment offers a one-of-a-kind evening in the heart of the Sandhills. Whether you’re looking to laugh until your sides hurt or you’re secretly hoping your friend ends up clucking like a chicken, David Anthony – Comedy Hypnosis is a can’t-miss event that blends wonder, imagination, and comedy into a show like no other.
