Detention Center nurse charged with stealing medication from jail

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of one individual following a drug investigation in the Carthage area.

On August 19, deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office arrested Deanna Thomas of Carthage. Thomas is a former nurse that was employed by Southern Health Partners and assigned to the Moore County Detention Center.

During the investigation, deputies learned that Thomas had taken antibiotics and other non-narcotic medications from the Moore County Detention Center and given them to a family member. Thomas’ nursing license does not allow her to dispense medication without a doctor’s order. The arrest was made at the conclusion of the investigation.

Thomas, 40, was arrested on charges of two counts of larceny by employee, two counts of practice medicine without a license, two counts of practice pharmacy without a license, and two counts of felony conspiracy.

The suspect’s secured bond was set at $100,000. She is expected in court on Sept. 15 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
