Moore County District Attorney Maureen Krueger announced Wednesday morning that she will not seek re-election. The announcement came during an interview on WEEB 990AM.
Krueger has served as the District Attorney since January 2007. She would have been facing Michael Hardin in the upcoming election in 2020.
During the interview on WEEB, she announced that her plans had changed. She went on to say that her term would expire on December 31, 2020, and she had enough time in that she could actually retire and spend time with her children.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of Moore County as District Attorney,” said Krueger in a phone interview with Sandhills Sentinel. “I could not have done this without the talented staff that I am fortunate to work with each and every day. It has been an absolute honor to serve as District Attorney.”
Krueger began working in Moore County as the Assistant District Attorney in 1997. She opened a private practice in 2002, representing clients in custody matters, personal injury and criminal defense.
In 2007, she was appointed to a two-year term as District Attorney for Moore County. In 2008, Maureen successfully ran for election to retain her position as Moore County District Attorney. Krueger is one of the few DA’s in North Carolina to have an inmate on death row.
Krueger serves on a number of committees and task-forces: Chairperson of the Moore County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Moore County Criminal Justice Partnership Advisory Board, Moore County Community Child Protection Team, Moore County Gang Prevention Task Force, Moore County Domestic Violence Task Force, Moore County Child Fatality Review Team, former President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Moore County Bar Association, and a former member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys.
She is current member of the Carthage Rotary and a past board member of Moore Buddies.
Krueger is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati School of Law.
