A Pinehurst wreck on Tuesday resulted in one driver being airlifted to a trauma center. First responders were dispatched to Morganton Road around 5 p.m. on May 17 after receiving reports of a multivehicle crash blocking traffic.
According to authorities on the scene, the wreck occurred when a Ford F-150 attempted to pass another vehicle and crashed into a Chevy Camaro. The Ford then flipped and plummeted into a tree line as the Camaro veered from the road.

The driver of the Ford was transported via ambulance to the Pinehurst Harness Track where an emergency landing zone had been established. His condition was critical at the time of his arrival. The condition of the Chevy driver is currently unknown.
The crash restricted traffic on Morganton Road for two hours while the investigation took place, spanning from Fox Hollow Court to U.S. Highway 15-501. The road was closed and traffic was rerouted for over an hour before first responders were able to clear the roadway enough to open one lane of traffic.
Chain saws had to be used to cut the entangled Ford free of the trees before it could be dragged out with a chain. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage; though the Camaro was primarily damaged on the front passenger’s side, the F-150 suffered allover damage as a result of its tumble into the tree line.

First responders and tow operators worked to clear stray debris from the highway, consisting largely of downed limbs, glass, and stray vehicle parts. Rockwell Towing pulled the Chevy from the embankment.
Responding to the scene were the Aberdeen Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, Pinehurst Police Department, Southern Pines Fire Department, Moore County EMS, UNC Air Care, and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
