Driver airlifted after crash in Cameron

The driver of a Toyota Camry was flown to a trauma center after crashing her car Thursday evening. The accident occurred in the 700 block of Atkins Road near Kennerly Lane in Cameron.

The driver was traveling south on Atkins Road when she lost control and crashed into a pair of pine trees on the opposite side of the road. The impact caused the vehicle to roll over leaving the car on its roof.

When the first emergency units arrived, they found the woman laying on the ground beside the vehicle. She was taken to a landing zone that was set up in a field near the accident scene and flown to a trauma center.

According to authorities on the scene, her injuries were believed to be nonlife-threatening, and she was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Atkins Road was shut down while the patient was loaded on the medevac and then one lane reopened while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.

Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the crash.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS and N.C. Highway Patrol.
