A single-vehicle crash in Taylortown resulted in one person being airlifted on Thursday afternoon. Authorities closed down part of Main Street for an hour while first responders worked to free the trapped driver, transport the patient, and clear the wreckage from the roadway.
Around 2:15 p.m., first responders received a call alerting them to an SUV that had flipped near the intersection of Main Street and Richmond Street. Upon arrival, they discovered the driver was trapped within the vehicle and immediately began working to free the driver.
A landing zone for emergency air care was established off Rassie Wicker Drive in Pinehurst, where the patient was transported via helicopter to an area trauma center for further treatment. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and their condition is currently unknown at this time.
The SUV, a Buick Rainier, flipped when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Buick sustained heavy damage after rolling, eventually winding up on its roof. Parts of the Buick littered the roadway, and the vehicle began leaking gasoline shortly after crashing.
First responders worked quickly to remove debris and clean away the leaking gasoline. Traffic was rerouted around the wreck in both directions while authorities investigated the cause of the crash.
Responding to the scene were the Pinehurst Fire Department, Pinehurst Police Department, Moore County EMS, and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department. Rockwell Towing arrived on the scene to remove the Buick and assist in clearing the roadway.
