Driver arrested passenger flees crash on foot

A driver has been charged with DWI, and a passenger fled on foot after a vehicle was involved in an accident.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 1 bypass in Vass around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday.

A Nissan Armada was sitting in a southbound lane of U.S. Highway 1 bypass with significant front-end damage. The driver was found to be intoxicated, and the passenger had fled the scene.

A search was conducted, but the person has not been located as of this report.

One southbound lane of U.S. 1 was shut down for a brief period while crews worked the scene and the vehicle was removed.

N.C. State Highway Patrol was on scene investigating the accident.

Responding to the scene were Cypress Pointe Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, Vass Police Department, N.C. State Highway Patrol, and Oakley’s Towing.
