A single-vehicle car crash in Aberdeen resulted in the driver arrested and charged with DWI. The accident occurred at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the railroad crossing on U.S. Highway 1 South, near the intersection with Highway 5.

Aberdeen Police reported they had received two reports of a white pickup truck driving in a reckless manner on Highway 5, headed towards Aberdeen.

Before officers could get to the area, the truck ran off the righthand side of the road and slammed into a power pole. The impact sheared the pole and left the pole and downed power lines in the roadway.

The male driver was uninjured and was later handcuffed and placed in the patrol vehicle. Aberdeen Police advised he was charged with DWI.

The northbound lanes were shut down until Duke Progress Energy could arrive on the scene and shut off the power to the pole.

Responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and the Aberdeen Police Department.
