A driver escaped serious injury after her car ran off the road and ended up in a containment pond on U.S. 1 in Pinebluff Sunday. Fortunately, the containment pond had no water in the area the Honda Civic landed. The accident occurred in the southbound lanes south of Pinebluff where the four lane road ends.

The driver, believed to be in her 80s, has a history of diabetes and was extremely confused when rescuers first reached her. She was treated at the scene, and her condition improved. She was transported by EMS to Firsthealth Moore Regional for further care.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.

Responding to the accident were Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Pinebluff Police Department, and Moore County EMS.
