Driver extricated after Saturday morning accident

A two-vehicle accident required firefighters to cut open a car in order to safely remove the driver. The accident occurred on Highway 15-501 in Southern Pines near the entrance to Walmart Saturday around 7 a.m. 

The accident involved a Ford Mustang and a Toyota Camry.

According to law enforcement, the Camry was coming out of the State Employees Credit Union when it pulled into the path of the Mustang. The impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles. 

When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver’s side of the Camry had been crushed, and they were unable to safely remove the driver from the car.

They used hydraulic tools to cut away the roof of the vehicle and were able to extricate the female driver from the vehicle and transported her to Moore Regional Hospital.

The driver of the Mustang was also injured in the crash and was transported to the hospital. Neither driver was believed to have life-threatening injuries.

Southern Pines Police are investigating the accident.

Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Aberdeen Police, and Southern Pines Police.
