Driver flees after crashing during police pursuit

Police are searching for a man who fled the scene after crashing his car during a police pursuit. A North Carolina State Highway Patrol Officer was in pursuit when the suspect’s vehicle crashed in Pinebluff on Sunday.

The accident happened on Currant Street across from the ball field just shortly after midnight. It’s unclear at this time why the officer was attempting to pull the driver over.

Highway patrol attempted to stop a Saturn on U.S. Highway 1 in Pinebluff when the pursuit began. As the vehicles went down Currant street, the suspect ran off the right-hand side of the road, took out a sign and slammed into a dirt embankment and trees. The vehicle then spun completely around coming to rest in the road facing in the opposite direction.

The suspect fled on foot into a densely wooded area. He is believed to be injured from the crash. The Moore County Sheriff’s Department, several members of the highway patrol, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, and Pinebluff Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

There was an extensive search of the area, but the suspect was not located. The driver is from the area.
