Driver injured after car strikes tree

Pee Dee Road in Southern Pines was shut down for over half an hour on Saturday, April 9 when a vehicle veered from the road and struck a tree. The car crashed near Christ Fellowship Church and Midland Road. The single-vehicle accident resulted in one person being transported by EMS and the closure of the two-lane road.

Bystanders on the scene removed the driver from the vehicle while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Around 3:30 p.m., the driver of a Ford EcoSport was traveling toward Southern Pines. The vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a tree. The vehicle then spun around in the road and came to a rest facing the opposite direction. The Ford suffered substantial damage, centralized to the front driver’s side of the SUV.

The driver’s injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening, and she was the only occupant of the vehicle.

First responders worked quickly to transport the driver and clear the scene of debris. Moore County EMS, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, and the Southern Pines Police Department were on the scene, and Rockwell Towing removed the vehicle.
