Driver strikes tree on Midland Road

A single-vehicle wreck in Southern Pines resulted in the hospitalization of a local person on Tuesday, June 14. Around 10:20 p.m., first responders received a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a tree on Midland Road.

The driver of a Hyundai Sonata veered from the road while traveling west toward Pinehurst and struck a pine tree in the median. As a result, the car sustained heavy front-end damage.

The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash and was transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The wreck occurred near Quail Hollow Place, and westbound traffic was redirected around the wreck for twenty minutes while authorities cleared the site of the wreck.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation at this time until authorities have a chance to speak with the driver.

Emergency response crews worked to clear debris from the wreckage, direct traffic, and ensure the safety of those on the scene. Responding to the scene were the Southern Pines Fire Department, Southern Pines Police Department, and Moore County EMS.
