The Moore County Sheriff’s Office used a drone to located a missing 11 year old child.

Moore County Sheriff’s Office Drone Pilot, Lieutenant Tim Davis arrived at the girls home off of Flowers Road Thursday evening around 10:30 pm.  Davis immediately launched the Matrice 210 drone to aid in the search for the girl, according to a news release from Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

A heat signature was observed in the woods 100 yards away from the home across the highway within 15 minutes after the launch.

Davis immediately radioed to direct Deputy Sergeant Cameron and Deputies Oaks and Griffin to the location.  The deputies found the girl sleeping under a tree.

Sheriff Godfrey made a statement following the successful search and rescue mission.

“This is a perfect example of why we invested in this drone capability,” said Godfrey. “The Moore County Sheriff’s Office is doing everything we can to ensure that we are using technology to benefit the safety of our citizens as well as our deputies. Without the drone, we would have had to employ additional resources that historically would have included a helicopter. As a parent, I am happy for the child and the family that last night’s flight was a success and as the sheriff, I am proud of Lieutenant Davis and our deputies.”
