The fall sports season was historic and filled with championships around the county. From a football team doing what has never been done in their history, a golf team claiming its fifth school title, and an individual cross-country state champion, the 2022 fall season might have had the most talented athletes Moore County has ever seen.
VOLLEYBALL:
-North Moore lost in the second round of the 1A NCHSAA state playoffs to Cape Hatteras.
-Union Pines lost in the second round of the 2A NCHSAA state playoffs to Carrboro.
-Pinecrest won their conference championship before falling in the third round of the 4A NCHSAA state playoffs to Green Level.
-O’Neal lost in the second round of the 2A NCHSAA state playoffs to Statesville Christian.
WOMEN’S GOLF:
-O’Neal won their second straight team state championship in the 2A NCISAA.
-Pinecrest won their fifth school team state championship in the 4A NCHSAA.
-Union Pines competed in the 3A NCHSAA state tournament but lost in the first round.
-North Moore competed in the 1A NCHSAA state tournament but lost in the first round.
MEN’S SOCCER:
-O’Neal lost in the third round of the 2A NCISAA state tournament.
-North Moore lost in the fourth round of the 1A NCHSAA state tournament.
-Pinecrest lost in the opening round of the 4A NCHSAA state tournament.
WOMEN’S TENNIS:
-Pinecrest’s Brooke LaFrenz competed in the opening round of the 4A NCHSAA state tournament.
CROSS COUNTRY:
-O’Neal finished third in the 2A NCISAA state championship in the team category.
-Pinecrest sent eight runners to the state championship. Zack Gilberton won the 4A NCHSAA state championship. Gilberton’s title was the first state title for Pinecrest since 1974.
-Union Pines sent eight runners to the state championship to compete in the 3A NCHSAA state championship.
-North Moore sent one runner to compete in the 1A NCHSAA state championship.
FOOTBALL:
-Pinecrest won a conference championship before playing in the 4A NCHSAA state playoffs. The Patriots advanced to the second round before losing to Jordan.
-North Moore won a conference championship, completed a perfect regular season, and finished the season, 13-1, giving them the most wins in school history. The Mustangs made it to the fourth round with home-field advantage as a number two seed before losing to Rosewood.
